STEP ONE: ONLINE REQUEST
In order to set up and implement approved accommodations, students must submit an online request for their accommodations at the start of each
semester for each class they would like to receive accommodations.
Students should use the CDA Online Portal to request their approved accommodations. Students should review the Clockwork Information section on the website for detailed steps describing how to Request Approved Accommodations through the portal.
Important Note: Accommodation notices are not automatically sent out to instructors and are only sent once a student submits their
online request.
STEP TWO: CONSULTANT REVIEW
Once a student has submitted an online request for approved accommodations, the student's
Accessibility Consultant will review the request within two to three business days.
Accommodations are course specific and implementation depends upon the essential elements
of each course. If the consultant has a question about the request, they will follow
up with the student to discuss the concern. Accessibility Consultants may request
to meet with the student to discuss request.
STEP THREE: ACCOMMODATION MEMO SENT
Following review, the Accessibility Consultant will create and official accommodation
memo for each class and send an email message to instructors with a link to the student's
memo. Instructors will need to login to the CDA Online Portal to review the student's accommodation memo.
When accommodation memos have been sent, students will receive an email notification
through their UMail account with additional instructions regarding specific accommodations. Students
will also receive an email notification once an instructor has reviewed and acknowledged
receipt of the accommodation memo.
Students should also login to the CDA Online Portal to view their accommodation memos. Students are responsible to review their accommodation memos and the specific accommodation
language to understand the limits and expectations related to each accommodation.
STEP FOUR: COMMUNICATE AND WORK TOGETHER
Students, instructors, and the CDA office will need to work together to implement
and coordinate the approved accommodations. As a best practice, students should follow
up with each of their instructors to discuss their accommodations and to help facilitate
their smooth implementation. Student will also need to communicate with CDA staff
on specific accommodations.
For example, if a student receives exam accommodations, they must return to the portal to schedule their exams. If a student is approved for a peer note taker, they will need to login to the portal
to confirm the need for a note taker in their classes and to begin receiving and viewing course notes.
During the semester, students should contact their Accessibility Consultant quickly
if they have any questions or concerns, if an accommodation is not working or is not
being provided, and if they are running into any roadblocks or hurdles in the process.
