Training & Outreach for Faculty and Staff
TRAINING
The Center for Disability & Access desires to serve as a resource to staff and faculty for training and information on details of the Americans with Disabilities Act and how best to work with students registered with our office.
We are happy to meet with you individually or as a group in your staff or faculty meetings to provide information and training.
Additionally, we often will assist in setting up panel presentations for courses, classrooms, or group presentations.
Please contact us at info@disability.utah.edu or 801-581-5020 if you have any questions.
CDA Faculty Liaison Network
The University of Utah’s Center for Disability and Access (CDA) is seeking faculty members that are willing to receive additional training, advocate for the CDA, and be a resource for their fellow faculty members within their department. Faculty members that choose to participate in the CDA Faculty Liaison Network will be referred to as “CDA Liaisons.”
CDA Liaisons are department representatives who assist the CDA in its efforts to provide reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities and to enhance departmental awareness of accessibility practices and accommodations. The role of the CDA Liaison is to connect faculty, staff, and students to the CDA for their expertise and support.
Roles & Responsibilities
- CDA Liaisons should maintain familiarity with the University’s non-discrimination policies, University Policy 1-012. Additionally, CDA Liaisons should know the application of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 as it applies to university students.
- CDA Liaisons will offer student support by familiarizing themselves with the CDA website and the process of requesting accommodations.
- CDA Liaisons must be familiar with the CDA staffing structure – Associate Directors, Accessibility Consultants, and know who to ask, so they may serve as a resource for their fellow faculty members.
- CDA Liaisons should identify themselves within their department as a resource for connecting individuals to the CDA.
- CDA Liaisons must maintain the privacy of personal information related to these issues.
- CDA Liaisons should participate in an initial training provided by CDA. Ongoing support and consultation are available as needed from CDA.
Important Reminders
- The role of the CDA Liaison is to connect faculty, staff, and students to the CDA for their expertise and support.
- CDA Liaisons are not accommodation or accessibility experts.
- CDA Liaisons should never assume the responsibility of providing disability-related accommodations themselves or otherwise determining whether an accommodation is reasonable or necessary.
- CDA Liaisons are a department resource for faculty, staff, and students to answer questions or provide information about disability-related accommodations or CDA procedures.
