Accessibility of Web Content

The Department of Justice has given state and local governments until April 2026 to be in compliance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This includes ensuring that web content, including Canvas courses, is accessible to people with disabilities.

Canvas Course Accessibility Resources

To ensure your course follows legal requirements, use the following checklist to review your course material:

  • All images, graphs, and figures included in my course have alternative text available. 
  • I provide official textbooks, high quality PDFs (text is selectable), and/or text-only documents for all readings in my course. 
  • All videos used in my course have closed captions available. 
  • All colorful content is high contrast and I do not use color alone to emphasize information. (eg, important text is not indicated by being highlighted in a color.)
  • All modules, files, and links used in my course have descriptive names. (eg, "click here" is not a descriptive name for a link.)
