Alternative Textbook Exchange Program
Other State Institutions
The goal of the University of Utah’s Center for Disability Services Alternative Textbook Exchange Program is to provide textbooks in an electronic and recorded voice format to other state institutions.
Upon requesting a textbook in an alternative format, the requesting institution takes full responsibility for the appropriate use for all material received from the University of Utah. This means the requesting institute is responsible for all of the following:
- Copyright protocols, policies and procedures
- The materials are used only for students with disabilities who require textbooks in an alternative format
- The student is required to purchased the book and may not resale, redistribute, or make any copies of the book or CDs
- The student must sign an Appropriate Use Agreement
- Each CD/book needs to be labeled with copyright information
To request an alternative formatted textbook from the University of Utah, simply search for the book within our archives. If the desired textbook is available, please send an email request to textbooks@sa.utah.edu with the entire title, author(s), and ISBN number. Within two weeks, you will recieve a response via email with the expected shipment date of the CD(s).
The following links provide a framework for the University of Utah alternative textbook program. We encourage other institutions to develop their own programs and share their alternative text libraries with other state institutions.
